About Us
Tee it Up is me, John Tinsley, introducing you to a way of learning golf, a way of improvement, that is different to anything you may have experienced before.
Adapting the Tee It Up philosophy you soon appreciate that you already have all the answers to your perceived problems.
It’s just that you have never allowed yourself to access the resources you already have.
On this website you will have access to a library of guidance delivered by some of the masters in their fields. The information doesn’t provide, on its own, improvement. Surely we have more than enough information about the golf swing. The industry is driven by data; club head speed, ball spin, crush factors, launch angles; its endless and also worthless. It clutters a scrambled mind. Does knowing what your smash factor is improve your game? Of course not. So the support you can access here will help you create a better environment in which to learn and enjoy your game.
Tee it Up - beliefs that make the difference
1. The game itself is not important.
2. With real freedom anything works
3. The best learning is through senses not instruction
4. What your body is capable of will be enough for you
5. Accurate feedback creates great learning
6. Experience can over ride false beliefs
A bit more about me
Where do I start? Married for 42 years, two daughters, seven grand children and life is good. I qualified as a PE teacher, with distinction, way back in 1976. I didn’t go into teaching but straight from college into leisure centre management at the age of 22. On reflection pretty young to take on the role of assistant manager of a new multi million pound complex. A couple of years later I was managing my own centre in Wrexham.
Eventually I followed my desire to set up my own businesses and, like everybody else, there were up and downs, real challenges, situations that might be described as life changing and I wouldn’t want to experience again. In business, like in golf, future performance is only based on today’s learning and without realising it, a lot was being learned!
Following a very painful period in business I wondered through a series of jobs before setting up an IFA business which led me to create a business called Practice Plan and what a business it turned out to be!
Just a great journey not only the reward of the experience but the enjoyment of sharing that journey with both employees and clients (and their families). Practice plan was recognised at every level as being a company to engage with, true to its values, having integrity and delivering much more than it promised. Practice Plan thrives still today and purely on a personal level it is with great satisfaction I can reflect that we made a real, positive, difference to those that were part of the practice plan experience.
Outside of the family and business my coaching history includes:
- Football, working with the Welsh FA (level 2)
- RSA (3)
- Swimming
- Athletics
Golf
- WGTF Advanced
- NLP golf
- Mind Coach
- SeeMore Putters (2)
- CHEK Institute golf conditioning
- Extraordinary Golf – Fred Shoemaker – Coaches coaching course
- Chi performance golf – currently participating
- 50 year single figure h/c
- Junior county
- Very part time assistant
Working with you I can coach you to a place where you are capable, without criticism or judgement, to coach yourself. To allow you to access the resources you already have to swing the golf club the way that it feels natural to you which, in turn, will allow you to be the best you can be in your game.
Outside of the tuition it will be up to you to progress the experiences you will have during your coaching. We will agree practice schedules and regular reporting of progress. A “lesson” is only the start of a journey. It’s what happens between sessions, on the range or on the course, where the real learning takes place.
I believe I can safely say that everyone I have ever coached has been able to access me for interim support and guidance. If I share your desire to be the best you can be in golf then I have to be available to help you grow when between lessons. So, it’s a team effort.

You see tomorrow’s performance doesn’t depend on your performance today
What have you learn/experience today about your swing, your game, about you, that you take with you are the things that determine performance tomorrow.
If you are looking for news and suggestions on new equipment, quick fix tips and the like, then this isn’t for you. Of course there may be simple things that that might spark a desire to learn more, but it is simply that, the desire to learn. Accepting failure is part of that learning, which is the basis of Tee It Up. You see if you are deprived of failure you are deprived of your future. Profound but true.
